at one time a wharf known as the Praamsma wharf in
Joure. It has since been filled with sand.

On April 5, 1824, Marten started a
cabinet and furniture business in the Midstraat in
Joure. Besides furniture, he also made the wooden
cabinets for Friese Klokken (clocks). His firm later
became known as "De Lijmpot". He was one of the founders
of the first Gereformeerde Kerk in Joure.
